I've decided that I'm going to make Wednesday's my garden day. As in, I will post about my garden(s) on Wednesday's. What do you think? Like?
I don't have a big update today as the weather hasn't been ideal for working outdoors lately. But we finally got some sun on Sunday (how appropriate) and were able to spend a couple hours outside working in the gardens.
First up, it was time to spruce up the front of our house. We have two hanging baskets on the front porch and they look so sad until I get some flowers into them.
Mia totally photo bombed that picture. Silly dog.
I picked up some flowers from the farmer's market on Saturday and couldn't wait to get them planted. I chose a variety of colourful flowers and was quite delighted with my choices, even though I bought way too many, same as last year. You'd think I'd learn.
These pictures really don't do it justice but the front of the house looks way better now. It just adds a nice touch.
Now I just have to figure out where to plant the extra flowers and then remember to water them! Hopefully they start looking a little more alive soon.
Next up, our three new tomato plants. As I mentioned before, we bought seven heirloom tomato plants from the farmer's market and they are happily planted in our garden. But a friend of mine offered me a couple more plants, since she had too many. I couldn't just say no, even though we didn't have any more room in the garden.
So we ended up planting them in containers.
Hopefully they do well and start growing soon. They're looking a little small and spindly at the moment.
And speaking of our garden, it's looking really good!
We weeded it and replanted a few things that weren't coming up well. We are also trying to figure out how to save our zucchini, cucumber and broccoli plants. It appears that they are infested with ants and are struggling to live when they're being eaten down constantly. If anyone has any suggestions for how to get rid of ants, please let us know.
The other exciting news is, we bought a sprinkler!
I'm really excited about this newest addition to the garden as it will save us a bunch of time. It's really time consuming having to stand there and water by hand, so it will be nice to just turn on the sprinkler while we accomplish other outside chores.
So that's how our garden is growing this week. Stay tuned for another update next Wednesday!
