Chicken Chicken

Remember back in April when I blogged about us getting 26 little baby chicks? Well, those chicks grew up and are now dispersed amongst friends' freezers. Sorry I kind of slacked off on updating you all on how they were growing and when we said our final goodbye to them. But it just happened so fast and I kind of forgot.

But don't you worry, because a couple weeks ago, we got a brand new batch of 26 little baby chicks!

I can't get over how incredibly cute and yellow they are that first day they arrive. They're like tiny little fuzz balls that peep. Too bad they don't stay in that stage for long.

Last week I went and hung out with them for a little bit, just to try and enjoy their cuteness for a little bit longer.

They were so cute, lounging about in clumps and soaking up some sunshine.

I just can't get over how fast they change though. The little white feathers start popping out on their wings and they get a little fatter and lose a little more of their yellow fuzz.

They're still cute though and still peep, so I still like them. I couldn't resist snapping this picture on my way past the coop Wednesday morning. How adorable.

I will try and do a better job at documenting their short lives with us. The weeks just fly by and it's hard to stay on top of it. One thing I am determined to do a better job of this time around though is keeping track of how much it costs us to raise a batch of birds. It would be nice to know how much money we're losing on them.

  2. Casey - That was pretty funny! They are totally a gateway animal, I now want a goat and a pig. No cows unless we get more property... maybe a farm in the midwest. :P

  3. I give you so much credit for raising chickens. I love to eat them, but after years of taking care of them, I hate them when they're alive. :P
