House Layout

I'm pretty sure that someone asked for this post nearly a year ago and it has taken me that long to get it done and up. Oops.

I'm just not that gifted when it comes to using programs to make house layouts and I get easily frustrated when things don't go like I think they should. I did start to make a layout a couple times but I lost my patience quickly and gave up. I had horribly done sketches with rough measurements sitting around for a while before I actually did something with them.

Lucky for me, my awesome sister-in-law Trish offered to help. She probably only offered because she wasn't sure what she was getting herself into. Oh, and lucky for you, she did an amazing job!

I asked her to make a simple layout just to give you guys an idea of how our house is laid out in terms of room locations and such. She told me that was too boring and she would spice it up a little and boy am I glad she did!

This is what I asked for.

And THIS is what she did!

As you can see in these pictures, our kitchen, dining and living room are all open concept, a feature that I love. Then you head down the hall with the bathroom on the left, our bedroom on the left, laundry room straight ahead and office to the right. And that small room off our bedroom and behind the bathroom is our walk in closet.

Now aren't you glad she didn't listen to me? I love how she put pieces of furniture into it and even put the right paint colours in each room. Seriously, it blew me away.

Here is the basement, done with as much amazing detail as the main floor.

Looking at the above picture, I will now explain the rooms you see. We have the main area with the air hockey table (not in sketch), tv area and wood stove. Then to the back we have the utility/storage room to the left, bathroom in the middle and then guest room to the right. And those two small rooms at the front are the wood room and the cold room, both of which are underneath the front porch.

Hopefully seeing these layouts of our house gives you a better understanding of where things are located. So next time I talk about a room, you will know where it is in relation to the rest of the house!

I'm hoping to film a video house tour within the next few weeks and get that up to you by the end of the month, but we'll see if that actually happens. You all know how good I am at procrastinating. And I'd have to clean my house before filming said video... so don't hold your breath. I will get it to you eventually though.
