Walk for Memories 2014

Last Saturday I participated in the Alzheimer Society's Walk for Memories, in honour of my Dad.

Dad didn't have Alzheimer's but he did have Lewy Body Dementia and I wanted to show my support to the community and raise money for a wonderful organization that helps those struggling with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

I only signed up for the walk two weeks ago when I realized that I would in fact be in town this past weekend, so I didn't have a lot of time to fund raise. I made myself a goal of $100 and I am proud to say that I passed it! I raised a total of $115 and am so thankful to those who donated.

The walk was held in the basement of a mall downtown, so we didn't have to go out in the cold. It was really nice to have it indoors since a lot of our walkers were older or were being pushed in wheelchairs or using walkers. There was a decent turn out of people and as a whole, over $14,000 was raised for the local Alzheimer Society!

I was very honoured to be a part of this walk and look forward to participating in years to come. I met some nice people and am looking forward to volunteering with them sometime in the next couple of months!

Oh and I totally won a door prize, because I'm just crazy lucky like that.

I'm pretty sure that the Alzheimer Society is still accepting donations so if you would like to donate, please visit my page.

What did everyone else do this past weekend?

  1. Good for you!!! I do the Terry Fox run every year and it just feels so good to help other people while doing something as simple as walking/running :)

  2. Casey - It's so true! And good for you for participating in the Terry Fox run every year. Do you blog about it and I've just missed it?

  3. You are very photogenic Jen. :) I went for a walk with Mom and Mike on Sat and Sun we watched the Seattle Seahawks totally win the Superbowl. :)

  4. Jackie - Why thank you! I can't believe how badly the Seahawks crushed the Broncos. Mike looked pretty cute in his little onesie. :)

  5. Good for you, Jenn! I never knew your dad, but I'm pretty sure he'd be proud to see you doing something for others this way.

  6. Stasy - Thank you. I'm pretty sure Dad would be proud too. :)
