Book Review: Messy Beautiful Love by Darlene Schact

Messy Beautiful Love is a book about marriage, offering hope when it feels like all might be lost and a testimony to how grace and God can take something that threatens your marriage and turn it into something beautiful. Life is hard and it is inevitably going to get messy at some point. This book is a testimony of how you can take something that has the potential to tear your relationship apart, surrender it to God and start living in obedience to Him. When you do, amazing things can happen. Darlene Schact uses her life experiences and mistakes to bring forward a very honest and easy to relate to book that will get you thinking and working on your relationship.

I really enjoyed this book and found it encouraging in so many ways. Each chapter focuses on a quality that you should be working on in yourself, including a challenge at the end. The challenges are realistic and are there to get you implementing changes into your relationship, instead of just reading the book, nodding along and then forgetting all that was written. I found this motivating, although sometimes hard to follow through on. Holding my tongue next time I get in an argument with my husband? Easier in theory than in practice. Overall, I was inspired by this book to work harder on my relationship, to not get lazy and push things to the side. A strong relationship takes work and we have to be willing to put in that effort. I would recommend this book to other Christian women who are looking for a book on real life relationships.

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLookBloggers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
