Making Time to Date

Dan and I celebrated 6 years of marriage on December 14th. Sometimes I can't believe how fast the time goes by and then other times it drags. I guess that's the way life is.

Something I have realized over these last six years is that you need to make time for each other. It's so easy to get busy and swept up into work and schedules and activities and before you know it, you're both doing your own thing and are spending less time one on one. I'm also aware that in certain seasons of life, that's just the way it is. With Dan being self employed, we go through some less busy times where we have days and days together and then when it gets busy, we're lucky to spend a few hours in each others company at night. You really do have to go with the flow on occasion.

But one thing Dan and I tried to make more of an effort to do this past year (2014) was to make time to date. We had a master list of date ideas and we would try and choose one thing to do together each week. It didn't always work and we went through months of never even picking up our list but overall, it helped us spend more time just the two of us.

Sometimes the dates were planned out and other times they were spontaneous. It didn't really matter since the end result was the same - time together.

Some dates were free, others cost money. Some dates got cancelled or postponed, others were created out of thin air. Basically any activity done just the two us can be counted as a date. Well I guess Mia occasionally joined us, so technically it made us a group. Oh well, she doesn't really count.

We've made up a new list for 2015 and are excited to get started on it. We're hoping to do better with actually going on regular dates instead of just in little bursts of a few months at a time. But either way, we're still making time for each other.

  1. Love the Canoe Museum. Do you know if they have many a final decision about moving to the Liftlock site?
