As most of you are aware, my Dad had Lewy Body Dementia and passed away in December 2013. After he died, I decided that I wanted to get more involved with the local Alzheimer Society and find ways to help others in the community struggling with different forms of dementia. I participated in the Walk for Memories last year and also started volunteering at the local Alzheimer Society office last March.
I really enjoyed the walk last year and decided that I wanted to make it a yearly tradition for me to participate. This year though, I formed a team!
There only ended up being three of us on the team but it was still lots of fun and we raised $410 total together. I'm hoping to get more people to join us for next years walk.
Since the photographer there took one of all three of us together, I forgot to take one since it felt like we already had. Oops. Dan refused to wear a t-shirt but he did wear the two yellow ribbons, while Kristy and I went a little overkill on the team spirit.
There was a wonderful turnout this year with over 125 registered walkers and $17,000 raised for the local community. I would call that a success! Thank you to all of you who donated, I really appreciated your support.
I've already started planning for next year and how to make my team even better, so if you are interested in joining, be sure to let me know!
