Canoe Camping Trip 2015

Guess what? I'm finally going to share pictures from our awesome camping trip we took in July! You thought it would never happen, didn't you? And I just realized that if you don't follow me on Facebook, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

Let me fill you in. Dan, Mia and I went on a canoe camping trip mid-July and I then shared some pictures on my Facebook page and promised a blog post about it in the near future. September is near future enough, right? Right?

Moving right along to the good stuff: pictures! This post will mostly be pictures (which is everyone's favourite part anyway) so I apologize in advance for the length of it. I wanted to be sure we documented every aspect of the trip and so I was constantly taking pictures.

The trip in went really well and took us about four hours. Mia was a real trooper in the canoe and only whined a little bit before taking up her favourite relaxing position (see photo above) and rode along peacefully.

We did all three portages in one trip each, since all of our gear fit into our three backpacks (yes Mia had her own!) and Dan could carry the canoe. It made for much quicker portages, not having to do multiple trips.

Just as we were about to reach the lake that our campsite was on, it started to rain. Thankfully we were ready for it and had our pack covers and raincoats on.

We had such a fabulous time, other than the wet Friday, but I won't bore you too much longer with an entire play by play of the weekend. We hiked up cliffs, toured the surrounding lakes, walked some trails, went swimming and just overall enjoyed our time away from the world and soaked up as much nature as we could.

I made all of our own meals, since I can't actually eat any store bought dehydrated foods, and I was so proud of how well I did. We ate oatmeal/rice cereal for breakfasts and for the other meals we had a rice dish, soup (kind of like Mr. Noodles but better) and tomato beef pasta. The pasta dish was by far the best, but the other meals tasted pretty good too. Especially cooked on our fancy new camping stove.

We were only there from Friday to Sunday but it was the perfect length. The whole camping trip was a huge success and I can't wait to get out again! The sad part is, it probably won't be until next year. The summer just flew by too fast.

    1. Everyone did have a great time, which was questionable at first with the rain and the whining dog. :P

    1. So glad you liked it! And what prompt blog checking. :)

Oh and yes, the stove is the same as Stacey & Eric's (and Cora & Jeremie's). It's just such a wonderful stove, we all need to own it!

    1. I was slightly jealous of how comfy Mia looked in the canoe, as we paddled her around like a princess. :)
