Medicated Cycle #4 - Clomid + IUI

We're back at it folks, another treatment cycle is going on.

After taking the summer off, we met with our doctor in August and discussed next steps and how we would proceed. He said that he was surprised nothing had worked yet, since I have responded well to all of the treatments so far. The original plan was to do an IUI + injectables come fall but since I responded really well to the clomid in May (yet it still didn't work), he was comfortable with us trying clomid + IUI this month instead. Since clomid costs approximately $20 for us for one cycle and the injectables will cost closer to $1,000, we opted to try clomid one more time.

I started the clomid last Friday and we were back to Toronto this morning for monitoring. Basically we're starting that really crappy week of daily 4am wake ups and trips to Toronto to see how my follicles are developing. Once I'm close to ovulation, I will give myself a trigger shot (ovidrel) and then we will do the IUI.

I am also trying to cut back on refined sugars this month, as well as taking more vitamins and doing acupuncture. I figured I may as well go all out and do whatever it takes to make this work. Even though it probably won't.

That is a quick overview of what's going on in our fertility lives, for those of you who were wondering. I'm really finding it hard to be hopeful that this will actually work and I'm kind of hating that we have to go through this. Let's just say that I'm not feeling optimistic. Having said that, I know some of you are hopeful for us and so I would like you to send good vibes and prayers our way. We could really use them.

    1. I appreciate all your thoughts and hopes. :)

Acupuncture is kind of weird (I mean they are sticking a bunch of needles in you) but so far my experience with it is good.

  3. Hey Jen be positive. We went through the same thing for 7 years. When I did the shots I poked myself with the needle in my thumb taking the lid off, ouch did that hurt and still had to poke it in my leg. This didn't work for us, but after we stopped as you know we had Sydney. So my prayers and thoughts are with you both. It can be a long struggle but be positive. :)

    1. I had no idea you guys struggled with infertility! Giving myself shots is my least favourite thing to do. Thank you for the encouragement. :)

    1. I know every cycle is different and that's what I keep repeating to myself. It's hard to be hopeful when it's never worked before though.

As for meeting up, we're in TO at such inconvenient times. We are usually done by 7:30am and have to rush home for Dan to get back to work. :(
